Pampanga is a province in the Philippines, just north of Manila, with a tropical climate that's hot year-round. It's famous for being the culinary capital of the country-try the original sizzling sisig in Angeles City-and for the 1991 Mount Pinatubo eruption. During the dry season from November to April, you can hike to the volcano's crater lake, while the rainy months from May to October are perfect for touring the giant Christmas lanterns at the annual Ligligan Parul festival in San Fernando. Temperatures stay around 85°F (29°C) most days, so pack light clothes and plan indoor food tours during the afternoon heat.
