Erongo, on Namibia's central coast, has a desert climate with cool coastal fog from June to August and scorching inland summers above 100°F (38°C). It's famous for the towering dunes of the Namib, ancient rock paintings at Brandberg, and gemstones you can hunt for. In the dry season from May to October, you can try sandboarding and quad biking in Swakopmund, or go dolphin watching in Walvis Bay's lagoon; during the green season from November to April, you'll find cheaper rates and see wildlife migrating at the foot of Spitzkoppe.
