Grossglockner-Grossvenediger is a mountain region in Austria's Hohe Tauern range, famous for Austria's highest peak, Grossglockner (3,798 m / 12,461 ft), and the sprawling Grossvenediger glacier. The alpine climate means summer highs around 20°C (68°F) are perfect for hiking the 48 km Grossglockner High Alpine Road, while winter temps drop to -10°C (14°F), drawing skiers to the Kitzsteinhorn glacier for runs from November to May. You can climb the Grossglockner via the Stüdlgrat route with a guide in July, or drive the scenic road in September for less traffic and golden larch forests.
